Welcome “GG”!
I’m delighted to share some fantastic news with you all – our new tow plane, Super Cub G-TUGG (or just “GG” to its friends), has officially joined the club!
Last Thursday saw an impressive team effort to bring GG home. Two of our members set off in the Grob 109 from Usk and headed north to Kirkbride Airfield. There, they met pilots from Ulster Gliding Club who had flown G-TUGG all the way from Northern Ireland earlier that morning – a journey which marks the start of a new chapter for our club. Without missing a beat, GG was flown back to Usk that very same day.
Over the weekend, GG was already earning its keep. Tug pilots began their familiarisation flights and many of our members had their first chance to launch behind the Super Cub. It’s safe to say that GG made a strong first impression!
G-TUGG arrives at a crucial time, stepping in while our Pawnee is undergoing long-term maintenance. With a capable and reliable tow plane back in service, we’re pleased to announce that experience flights for members of the public will resume in May. We know how much these flights mean to both our visitors and our members and it’s fantastic to be able to get them going again.
A huge thank you to everyone involved in bringing GG to Usk and getting her straight to work. We look forward to a great season ahead!
