Visiting Pilot Information
For visiting pilots that are flying in, PPR is essential. Please call the CFI using the telephone number published on the contact page.
The airfield frequency is 129.980, and if there is no response to your radio call, please continue to make calls to ‘Usk traffic’ as there is frequently motor glider activity when the airfield appears not to be operating.
FINDING SWGC FROM THE AIR
SWGC is located in Monmouthshire, 9.2 nm SE of Abergavenny. It lies one field to the east of the A449, about 4.3 nm south of Raglan and about 2.6 nm NE of Usk.
The airfield has a grass surface, is 82 feet amsl, and there are 3 runway directions:
28 – 780m
10 – 780m
06 – 380m
CAUTION :
(a) There are tall trees on the approaches to runways 28 and 10, along with a cottage and power lines on the approach to runway 28, so low approaches are not possible, which reduces the useable length of the runway.
Similarly, tall trees need to be cleared when climbing out of the airfield.
(b) The airfield used to be 3 separate fields and there are two ridges which cross the airfield at approximately right angles to the runways.
Please see the following diagrams which show the location of the airfield at two different scales.
