About Us
Brief history
South Wales Gliding Club, also known as Usk Gliding Club, was formed in 1962 but moved to the current site near Usk in 1974.
Facilities
The club has evolved over the years and as we have grown so have our premises. On-site facilities include a clubhouse with kitchen, bar, washrooms and training facilities. We hold regular social events through the year.
Who we are
We are a group of about 80 individuals, all passionate about flying. The club is completely run by volunteers, including our highly qualified instructors.
Our members come from all walks of life and a wide range of age groups, so you’re bound to fit in!
Our aircraft
The club maintains a fleet of 10 aircraft and various other support vehicles. These include our 2-seat training gliders, single seat gliders along with tow planes. Our ground fleet keeps us moving and includes our SkyLaunch winch, tractors and buggies.

Many of our members own their own gliders which are also kept on site.
Super Cub 180 - The latest addition to our fleet. We purchased this aircraft in 2025 to support our aerotowing capabilities and reduce downtime through the season.
Astir - The club owns 3 of these single seat gliders. Flown by club members once they are solo. A capable soaring glider often seeing members through their first cross country flights.
Grob 103 - The club owns 2 of these 2-seat training gliders. We have carried out upgrades to one of the aircraft allowing it to be fully aerobatic.
K13 - Another training glider, the club owns two of these.
K8 - Single seat glider available for solo pilots to fly.
Pawnee - A powerful aircraft capable of launching even our heaviest gliders.
